Maia Sandu in Bratislava: “There is no turning back from our European path”

Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated in Bratislava that Moldova remains firmly committed to its path toward European Union integration.

Speaking alongside Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, Sandu emphasized that Moldova’s EU trajectory is not only a national choice but also a strategic contribution to regional stability.

She highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, built over 33 years of diplomatic cooperation.

During the visit, several agreements were signed, including in the field of social protection and economic cooperation.

Sandu noted that Moldova’s exports to Slovakia increased by over 30% in the past year, though significant untapped potential remains.

She also pointed to key reforms implemented in recent years, including energy diversification and judicial reform.

Addressing the war in Ukraine, Sandu warned that its consequences extend beyond Ukraine and directly affect Moldova, particularly through energy infrastructure risks.

She referenced the pollution of the Dniester River and damage to key electricity transmission lines.

Sandu thanked Slovakia for its support, particularly in addressing energy challenges.
