Digital versions of Nintendo Switch 2 games will be cheaper than physical versions

Nintendo of America has officially announced its new pricing policy for the Switch 2. Under this policy, digital versions will be sold at a lower price than physical games in the U.S. In a statement to IGN, the company noted that there will be no price increase for physical games, while digital versions will be cheaper.

The first implementation of this policy will take place with the release of *Yoshi and the Mysterious Book* on May 21, 2026. The digital version will be priced at $59.99, while the physical version will be $69.99. Nintendo noted that while offering players the same gaming experience, this price difference stems from production and distribution costs and provides players with different purchasing options.

The announcement also emphasized that retailers will be able to set their own prices for both physical and digital games, and that the price of each game may vary. This model is already in place in Europe; for example, the digital version of the Yoshi game is priced at €59.99, while the physical version is €69.99.

This move is being interpreted as a sign that Nintendo is accelerating its digitalization strategy. Optimizing production costs and offering players more flexible purchasing options appear to have become the company’s top priorities.
